History of Ghana

Ghana, formerly known as Gold Coast, is a young republic that gained its independence from the British on March 6, 1957. It is the first black African colony south of the Sahara to gain independence. Ghana has abundant sunshine, tropical landscapes, cascading waterfalls, bird species, monkey sanctuaries, and coastal plains with dramatic backdrops of forest hills. Throughout Ghana, there is a wide variety of traditional festivals differing according to tribes and regions with displays of cultural dances and durbar of chiefs.
